The Amazon is one of the world's most important living systems, yet conversations about its future are still often shaped by perspectives from outside the region. Scientists, journalists and policymakers play an essential role, but the people who live in the Amazon—and who have shaped its cultures, territories and societies for generations—remain comparatively difficult to discover in global public discourse.

FightForAmazonia exists to help change that.

Across the Amazon Basin, Indigenous leaders, artists, educators, communicators, filmmakers, writers, entrepreneurs, researchers, activists and cultural leaders are generating knowledge, influencing public debate and developing ideas for the future. They are not simply witnesses to what is happening in the Amazon. They are contemporary experts whose perspectives are essential to understanding the region and imagining its future.

Making expertise easier to discover

Much of this knowledge already exists—in interviews, documentaries, books, podcasts, speeches, research, news coverage, social media and organisations—but it is scattered across the internet and often difficult to find without prior knowledge of the region. FightForAmazonia brings these fragments together.

The platform connects people, ideas, organisations and existing media, creating pathways to discover and explore contemporary Indigenous leadership across the Amazon Basin.

Rather than organising the Amazon primarily around environmental crises, FightForAmazonia starts with people and expertise. A profile can lead to an interview, a book to a filmmaker, an organisation to a campaign, or one Indigenous leader to others working on related questions elsewhere in the Amazon.

The Amazon is also a living, contemporary region filled with people creating, teaching, organising, researching, communicating, building businesses, making art and imagining different futures.

Understanding the Amazon therefore requires more than scientific knowledge and political analysis. It requires listening to the diverse people who live there and recognising the knowledge generated through their experiences and work. FightForAmazonia does not seek to speak for Indigenous peoples. It seeks to make their existing voices, work and expertise easier to discover and engage with.
